Six Belgium Campus iTversity students have received a partial sponsorship to attend a UX design course in Lleida, Spain. The three-week module is being hosted by one of Spain’s leading higher education institutions, the University of Lleida. Students attending have the incredible opportunity to learn all things UX design while enjoying Spanish sights and culture and making friends with international peers.
Our students are currently working through the UX design process. This process involves empathising with the user and identifying their needs (user research), generating ideas that meet these needs (ideation), implementing these ideas to create an affordable replica of the intended solution (prototyping), and, finally, testing these ideas to assess usability and functionality.
In between all this hard work, our students have already managed to find some time for fun and exploration. They have visited famous Spanish sights, including the Church of St. Mary and Gardeny Castle. They have also visited an art gallery, attended a medieval evening, and enjoyed an amusement park. They travelled to all these places using public transport which was a learning experience at first but has now become second nature.
The user experience module forms part of a semester-long international minor programme, called Global Acting in IT, which allows students from universities across the globe to attend a different information technology course at each participating university. In addition to Belgium Campus iTversity and the University of Lleida, participating institutions include Fontys School of Information and Communication Technology (Netherlands), FH University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Austria), and PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Belgium).
Divided into six teams consisting of one student per institution, participating students must use the knowledge and skills they gain during the various IT modules to work on multidisciplinary and intercultural projects. The projects must meet the needs of industry stakeholders and speak to one or more of the sustainable development goals.
After completing the UX design course in Spain, our students will complete an AI programme at PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Belgium, a cyber security programme at Fontys School of ICT in the Netherlands, a data science programme at Belgium Campus iTversity, and, finally, an IoT programme at FH University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria in Austria.
