Conditions for applying:

  • Students who meet the requirements can fill in a tutor registration form at the student support dept. or from the student counsellors. Alternatively, you can apply online form the student portal.
  • Once you are accepted; your name, contact details and specialty subjects will then be added to our database.
  • Students struggling with particular subjects will then be referred to tutors, and can contact them personally to set up the tutoring sessions.
    • This can happen anywhere, anytime, at both parties' convenience.
  • The use of online platforms for tutoring is encouraged at the convenience of both the tutor & student.
  • All COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to when tutoring a student, this can take place at one of our classrooms while adhering to the physical distancing, wearing your masks correctly and thoroughly washing your hands and sanitizing correctly.
  • Tutors are then to report to the student support dept. whenever they have had sessions with a student, possibly on a weekly basis.
  • We expect tutors to be busy with tutoring between 5 and 10 hours per week on average, in order to stay on the list.
  • Closing date for applications is on the 5 March 2021.

Terms and Conditions for tutoring:

  • Average marks of 65% or above across all subjects, OR
  • Results of 75% and above for a specific subject (such as mathematics, programming, database etc.)
  • NO failed subjects
  • A history of good attendance, handing in assignments on time, participating in class, etc.
  • Good recommendation from at least one lecturer, or students you have helped before
  • Good time management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Patience and willingness to help others
  • We expect our tutors to be committed to the days/times they have indicated to volunteer and to ensure all educational outcomes for the learners are achieved
  • If for any reason, a tutor cannot attend a tutoring session he/she must make sure that they communicate with relevant people so they can be excused for that session.

The Benefits:

  • Students employed in the programme are offered extra marks in INL, as they are providing their services elsewhere.
  • In addition, the benefit of adding this to your CV's can put you in a good light for future employers.
    • You will receive a letter of recommendation by the end of each year as proof of your services.
    • A certificate will also be given to you as an indication and appreciation of your participation.

Tutors Pledge

  1. Team members should be dedicated and committed to their important roles as facilitators of learning.
  2. Team members are expected to act in a courteous and polite manner towards students and colleagues.
  3. Team members are required to be objective in their teaching and marking, and not let ideological persuasions interfere with the execution of their duties.
  4. Tutors must be available for communication with their course co-ordinators and fellow tutors. Tutors should respond promptly to all emails and messages (at least within a twenty-four hour timeframe).
  5. Team members need to be punctual and arrive at tutorials and meetings on time.
  6. Tutors are required to make every effort to meet marking deadlines. If for any reason a deadline cannot be met, the tutor must inform the student with enough warning so that an alternative arrangement can be made.
  7. If a tutor cannot take an allocated tutorial session, the tutor must timeously inform the course student as soon as he/she can.
  8. If, for any reason, it becomes impossible for a tutor to continue in his/her post as tutor, the relevant student support dept. and must be given at least one month's notice prior to the tutor's departure.
  9. If a tutor is found to be negligent in his/her duties, the student support dept. may give the tutor a warning. Three warnings will result in the dismissal of the tutor from his/her post.
  10. Tutors have the right to consult with the student support dept. to lodge grievances or issues they may be having with the course, another tutor, or the course coordinator.
