Kathea Communications Appoints Benjamin Liebenberg as New CTO

Benjamin will be in charge of building a strong technical team to ensure the effective operation of complex video conferencing solutions for all users, and expanding into the African market.

Kathea Communications, which represents some of the top brands in the communication, collaboration, audiovisual and workspace technology arenas, has promoted Benjamin Liebenberg to the position of chief technology officer (CTO), reporting into Kathea’s acting CEO, Wakeel Mclachlan. Benjamin previously served as Kathea’s sales manager.

“I am incredibly excited about my new role at Kathea Communications. What excites me the most is the opportunity to enhance communication technology and help businesses thrive in a remote and hybrid work environment,” he says.

Benjamin is particularly excited about the role he will play to improve communication wherever employees are. This ensures they remain professional even when not in the office, allowing businesses to grow without being impacted by a work-from-home strategy.

Benjamin has over a decade of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Kathea, Benjamin was account manager at Nology. He studied computer programming at the Belgium Campus and Unisa.

As CTO, Benjamin will be responsible for using advanced technology to create more effective communication strategies within businesses. This will involve finding innovative solutions to enhance internal and external communication, ensuring seamless interactions regardless of location, and leveraging technology to strengthen relationships among employees, and between businesses and their clients.

Benjamin plans to also leverage his sales and technical expertise to successfully lead his technology team. “My sales experience has honed my ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a way that is accessible and compelling to clients. This skill is crucial for leading the technology team in a direction that aligns with business objectives and client needs,” he explains.

“On the other hand, my technical knowledge enables me to understand both the needs of our clients and the capabilities of our technology, and by leveraging my technical skills. I can lead the technology team in developing solutions that solve real problems for our clients, rather than just competing on price.”

The digital revolution has paved the way for global collaboration in IT education. Virtual classrooms, remote internships, and cross-cultural projects will enable students to connect and collaborate with peers and mentors from around the world. This global perspective not only enriches the learning experience but also fosters cultural understanding and diversity in the IT community.

According to Benjamin, today’s technology leaders require skills beyond the technical ones. These include a human-centric approach, proactive problem-solving, effective communication, leadership and team building, customer focus adaptability, and resilience.

“My ultimate vision for Kathea Communications is to remain the trusted advisor within the AV/UC community, providing unparalleled experiences for everyone who interacts with our technology. Our goal is not just to make a sale but to establish enduring, long-term relationships built on trust and mutual benefit, both in-person and online,” he concludes.
