Students living with disabilities
Belgium Campus iTversity is a socially inclusive University representing a full demographic spectrum of South Africa. We are fully committed to providing equal opportunities for high quality tertiary education to all potential students, including those living with disabilities.
As an active B-BBEE contributor, BC focuses on the disadvantaged populations specifically into the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematical (STEM) programmes, particularly for students with disabilities and other subpopulations. We strive to create a supportive environment for students who are partially sighted, deaf, and with mobility disabilities, in helping them realise their educational and employment goals.
Class Accessibility and Support
All our campuses can, in various ways, accommodate students with mobility issues. Our Kempton Park campus is equipped with a wheel-chair-friendly elevator.
We provide a customised academic curriculum and have full time employed Sign Language interpreters for our Deaf students throughout their studies. In addition, our classes for our Deaf students are limited to a maximum of 10 students to ensure each student receives dedicated attention, and our half-moon seating arrangement is optimal for students who are learning through sign language.
Counselling Services and Student Guidance
Belgium Campus iTversity has a counselling office consisting of a qualified psychologist and three student counsellors who are freely available to students.
Counselling is tailored specifically to both students with functional impairment, such as disabled students, or students who have external factors or situations which may interfere with their motivation and/or studies.
There is a close collaboration between our counselling office and academic staff to maximise each student’s achievement.
The industry has appreciated the calibre of all our I.T. students and have not only taken them in for internship positions, but have also availed sponsorship towards students living with disabilities.
