Belgium Campus is one of the few universities in South Africa to provide a Diploma in Information Technology to Deaf students – the capital D in Deaf denotes a cultural, linguistic group who uses South African Sign Language (SASL).
SASL interpreters are provided in class throughout the 3 years of classroom contact and also during the 1 year of industry training. We continually refine and adjust our approach to the benefit of our Deaf students.
During their studies, students gain the invaluable experience of working with hearing students to prepare them for the working environment. Upon completion, Deaf students will have written the identical assessments, tests, and exams and will graduate with the same NQF level 6 qualification.
Currently, the criteria for Deaf students who wish to apply are:
- A South African ID,
- An audiogram no older than 6 months,
- Grade 12 with diploma endorsement,
- Pass our aptitude test with at least 50%.
(These are subject to change)
