Noord van die Berg Neighbourhood Watch Takes on Crime

A joint safety operation led by AfriForum’s Noord van die Berg Neighbourhood Watch achieved major success over the weekend with the arrest of a suspect linked to multiple attacks, burglaries, and cable theft incidents in the Akasia area.

The operation, called Magalies OPS 1, was carried out in collaboration with AfriForum’s Wes-Moot Neighbourhood Watch, ProSec CITR, Maximum Security Services, ProShield Security, Fidelity ADT, and the South African Police Service (SAPS). Communities on both sides of the Magaliesberg have faced a surge in break-ins, robberies, cable theft, and armed attacks in recent months.

Key highlights from the article include:

  • High-risk zones like the Theo Martins Gate and the R80 route were identified as hotspots for criminal activity.
  • The operation was coordinated from Belgium Campus iTversity, using drones from AfriForum and ProShield’s aerial wing.
  • The initiative not only led to an arrest but also increased visibility and helped remove other criminal elements from the area.
  • AfriForum’s “support circle” concept was emphasized — encouraging collaboration between communities, SAPS, and private security to strengthen safety.
  • Volunteers from Sinoville, Montana, and De Wildt participated, with support from Wes-Moot members in the south.
  • AfriForum thanked all role players and volunteers, as well as Belgium Campus for hosting the operation and Sacramento Spur for providing meals.
