The Master of Information Technology is a research driven postgraduate qualification designed for professionals who want to lead digital transformation in an era defined by rapid technological change. Overview
Students engage deeply with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital strategy. Through a full research dissertation supported by a Research Methodology module, they develop the ability to conduct independent, impactful research that contributes to the ICT field.
This qualification is ideal for individuals aiming to advance into senior ICT roles, specialise in high demand areas, or prepare for doctoral studies. Graduates emerge as strategic thinkers and technology leaders capable of shaping the future of digital transformation in South Africa and beyond.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission into the Master of Information Technology, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Minimum Academic Requirements
A completed NQF Level 8 qualification in Information Technology or a related field:
• Bachelor Honours Degree, or
• 480 credit Bachelor’s Degree, or
• Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology
Applicants must have achieved:
• A minimum average of 60%, and
• A research component of at least 30 credits
The faculty may prescribe additional modules where necessary.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants who do not meet the formal entry requirements may be considered through the institution’s RPL process. RPL may provide:
• Access to the qualification, or
• Exemption from specific modules
RPL assessments follow national policy guidelines and require submission of a portfolio of evidence.
Additional Notes
• A maximum of 50% of credits may be exempted based on prior learning.
• Admission through RPL is limited to 10% of the cohort.
• All applicants must comply with institutional policies available on the Belgium Campus website.
