SKILLVILLE is a game and multimedia tool for children to learn important competencies in addition to what they are learning in school. These competencies include financial education, political awareness, technical understanding and social participation skills. It also has a strong focus on creating awareness about social problems such as the abuse of drugs, tobacco and alcohol as well as the prevention of this abuse. This tool has already been successfully implemented in Belgium and is already assisting children to understand the advantages, disadvantages and the consequences of the actions they take. This is one example of how, through gaming and ICT, one can bring about social change to prevent children and future generations from experiencing very real social problems such as poor money management skills and drug, tobacco and alcohol abuse.
