This project enhances drone-assisted search and rescue (SAR) operations by improving visibility and communication in challenging conditions. The Sky SAR flare device, designed for attachment to drones, provides a fail-safe mechanism for signalling ground teams in case of hardware failure.
The system integrates an Arduino-controlled release mechanism that deploys smoke grenades or other signalling tools, ensuring effective location marking. Using TinkerCad, the team developed a functional prototype demonstrating the servo motor’s activation process. The project’s holistic approach supports rescue teams with real-time guidance, improving response efficiency and reducing search times to save lives.
