Diploma in Information Technology for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
At Belgium Campus iTversity we believe in equal access to education. We are dedicated to ensuring that the education we provide is accessible to all students, including students with learning and physical disabilities. We are proud to be one of the few higher education institutions in South Africa that provide a Diploma in Information Technology specifically designed for the Deaf and hard of hearing.
About This Qualification
Consisting of three years of classroom contact and one year of industry training, this Diploma in Information Technology allows our Deaf and hard of hearing students to write identical assessments, tests and exams as their hearing peers. On completion of this qualification, these students will graduate with an NQF level 6 qualification and vital industry experience.
We customise our curriculum for students who use South African Sign Language (SASL) as their preferred method of communication, and we provide SASL interpreters throughout the three years of classroom contact and one year of industry training. In addition, our classes are limited to a maximum of 10 students to ensure that each student receives dedicated attention, and our half-moon seating arrangement is optimal for students who are learning through sign language.
Our Deaf and hard of hearing students also have the invaluable experience of working with hearing peers throughout their studies. This, combined with their year of workplace training, ensures that they can enter the working environment with confidence.
